When Redtenbacher’s Funkestra gigs were still possible ‘Cool Beans’ was always an audience favorite. This stomping wall-to-wall funk piece with a larger-than-life bass line certainly justifies to be on the ‘Big FUNK Band’ album. The rhythm section is extended by a big band horn section and a live string section. The featured soloists are guitar wizard Mike Outram and Paul Jordanous on trumpet (who also co-wrote the horn arrangement with Stefan).

Out now, ‘Fire In The Blood’ is a new single by Jade Like The Stone with Redtenbacher’s Funkestra. The song, taken from their upcoming ‘7 Roads’ album collaboration, has already been included in the ‘Neo Psychedelic’ official Spotify playlist. Is it Psych Rock? Very possibly, but, as ever, Jade’s music is hard to constrain by classification, borrowing as it does from blues, rock – even prog, folk and funk perhaps – with a characteristic lack of prejudice.

Pedigree Cuts releases ‘A Little Book Of Jazz’ by Redtenbacher’s Funkestra

I’m delighted to announce the release of ‘A Little Book Of Jazz’ on Pedigree Cuts. A special thanks to executive producer Elliot Ireland to believe in this collection of songs. The album title refers to ‘The Real Book 5th Edition’ – which was an illegal fake book – a compilation of lead sheets of jazz standards, created by Berklee College of Music students in the 1970s. It has become the standard reference work for generations of jazz players and has influenced the performance and composition repertoire in the Jazz circles ever since. Including me – a former Berklee College of Music student – firmly falling into the spell of this real book – sold under the counter in Boston, MA.
