Buttnaked? Moldova? This cheeky tune is piece in three, possibly four movements. When I played it to a musician friend he asked if it was a ‘musical joke’ – well, I wouldn’t go that far but it is certainly a humorous tune with, at times, some seriously funky undertones. Read the story here.

Many would say that 2016 was a turbulent year – I guess I’m also one of them. I need quiet a bit of ‘grey wolf’ time (read “solitude”) to write music but more than ever I believe in the connecting power of music & performance – hence 2016 was a year of expanding relationships, forging new ones and strengthening old ones beyond borders, race, religion and beliefs. I’m very much looking forward to 2017 – performing my music and hearing it performed by small bands to the biggest funk orchestras! Carpe funkem.

I love Gargoyles! I was most delighted when a good friend of ours presented me with a miniature Gargoyle – he was immediately nicknamed ‘Mr Goyle’. He always looks grumpy – no matter if it rains or shines – there is a good amount of stoicism about him (well, he is made of stone) – and I thought he would be well worth having his own tune.

The inspiration for “Universality” came in a little “left of center” for a Jazz Funk tune. The title and music is inspired by the concept of the ‘universal scale’ as presented by Leonard Bernstein in his well knows ‘The Unanswered Question (Six talks at Harvard)’ lecture series. Sitting on the piano Leonard Bernstein explains that most cultures around the globe use a similar set of notes to create their folk melodies.
