Lovefool Part One & Part Two with Redtenbacher’s Funkestra

Lovefool Part One and Lovefool Part Two present a two-part reworking of the Cardigans classic by Georgia Van Etten, Redtenbacher’s Funkestra and the Masterlink Sessions Big Band.

Instead of treating Lovefool as a single straight cover, the arrangement opens the song into two contrasting versions. Each part draws on the colour, power and range of a full large ensemble while keeping the personality of the Funkestra sound at the centre.

Georgia Van Etten leads both performances with a vocal that gives the project its shape and focus. Around her, the expanded line-up moves into full big band territory, with rhythm section, four trumpets, four trombones and five saxophones creating a much broader musical canvas.

Part One leans into a more sharply defined swing setting, driven by brass punch and big band energy. Part Two takes the same material in a warmer and more groove-led direction. Together, the two recordings show how one familiar song can be reimagined through two distinct ensemble perspectives.

This release also reflects an important part of the wider Funkestra story. Redtenbacher’s Funkestra is not only a performing band in its own right, but also a central creative force within the Masterlink Sessions world. Lovefool Part One & Part Two captures that connection clearly, combining large-ensemble writing, live studio performance and detailed production with the groove-based identity associated with the Funkestra name.

For listeners, the release offers a fresh take on a well-known song. For arrangers, educators and big bands, it also extends beyond the recording itself, as the chart is available in score and parts through ArrangeMe / Sheet Music Direct HERE.
