Masterlink Sessions presents Nurgles, an original instrumental composition by Liam Dunachie, performed with Redtenbacher’s Funkestra and captured live at Masterlink Productions.
Centred around the Hammond organ and driven by a focused, forward-moving boogaloo groove, Nurgles reflects the Masterlink Sessions commitment to documenting musicians in real time — with clarity, interaction, and musical intent firmly in the foreground.

The Music
Nurgles is unapologetically organ-led. Liam Dunachie’s Hammond sets both the harmonic language and the dynamic arc of the piece, while the rhythm section locks into a groove that is insistent rather than ornamental.
The propulsion comes from a tightly interlocked foundation:
-
Luke Harris on drums establishes a grounded boogaloo pulse
-
Karl Vanden Bossche adds percussive detail and forward momentum
-
Tony Remy’s guitar work supports and shapes the groove rather than competing with it
-
Stefan Redtenbacher’s bass anchors the ensemble with authority and restraint
The result is not a pastiche or stylistic exercise, but a fully realised original composition, built around feel, repetition, and collective direction.
Why This Release Matters
From the Funkestra perspective, Nurgles is a natural and welcome addition following the release of FUNKOPIA and its accompanying mini-tour. It sits squarely within the band’s instrumental jazz-funk and fusion scope, while spotlighting a long-standing collaborator from within the Masterlink Sessions ecosystem.
This session also points forward. The emphasis on groove-based instrumental writing and collaborative identity helps pave the way toward the next Redtenbacher’s Funkestra album — The Exchange, a forthcoming project in collaboration with Austin / Texas-based guitarist Carter Arrington.

Final Note
Nurgles exemplifies what the Masterlink Sessions platform exists to do: shine a clear light on original music, collaborative trust, and musicians who shape the sound from within. It is always a pleasure to foreground one of the regular keyboard players from the Masterlink Sessions house band — also known as Redtenbacher’s Funkestra — in a setting that allows the music to speak for itself.
PS: And the name ‘Nurgles’? Inspired by a post-session visit to our favourite pub—spontaneous and fun, just like the tune itself.
