We’re proud to release The Lamb of Funk – Redtenbacher’s Funkestra & Horn House, the final single before our new album FUNKOPIA drops on October 3. Rooted in Jazz Funk and Fusion, this collaboration reflects the spirit of Funkestra’s 30-year journey.

From jam to Jazz Funk track

The nucleus of this track was born during a post-session jam at Masterlink Productions. Written by Carter Arrington, Doug Harper and Stefan Redtenbacher, the idea developed into a full piece that became the album opener.

Playlist success for The Lamb of Funk

We’re delighted that The Lamb of Funk has already caught the attention of Spotify’s editorial team. The track was added to two major playlists:

    • Fusion Fest (213,538 followers) – Electrified jazz, complex rhythms and virtuosic playing

This support gives a real boost to the single as we count down to the release of FUNKOPIA on October 3 and prepare to celebrate 30 years of Funkestra with our upcoming UK live dates.

Recording the rhythm section

The rhythm section laid the foundation:

  • Carter Arrington and Simon Peter King – guitars

  • Doug Harper – drums

  • Jim Watson – Hammond organ

  • Stefan Redtenbacher – bass

Their interplay gave the single its drive, blistering solos and muscular character.

Horn House collaboration

London-based Horn House then elevated the track with their arrangement and performance:

  • Nichol Thomson – trombone

  • Tom Walsh – trumpet

  • Graeme Blevins – saxophones

Nichol has toured with Mark King since 2014. Tom first came to Stefan’s attention with his video of Michael Jackson’s Speed Demon, and later impressed as lead trumpet with the WDR Big Band on their Prince Experience with Ricky Peterson.

Why this single matters

For me, The Lamb of Funk is about more than grooves and solos – it’s about creativity born in the moment, and musicians coming together across borders to create something greater than the sum of its parts. That’s why it earned its place as the opening track of FUNKOPIA.
