Crowbar is out now – the penultimate single before our new album FUNKOPIA drops on October 3. This release is a collaboration between Redtenbacher’s Funkestra, Horn House and the Masterlink Sessions, reflecting the spirit of creative partnership that has driven Funkestra for three decades.

The Music

Crowbar is a muscular, New Orleans–inspired groove that blends burning solos, raw energy and tasty funk riffs. The track features Carter Arrington delivering a raucous guitar solo, Ross Stanley setting fire to the Hammond, and Horn House (Nichol Thomson & Tom Walsh) powering the brass section with their trademark oompf.

The Story

The tune began life as Jive Detector – a phrase taken from Dr John’s autobiography Under a Hoodoo Moon. It briefly travelled via Major Arcana before James Welch at Masterlink Productions nicknamed it Crowbar. The name stuck, perfectly capturing the tune’s energy and drive.
